Youth
At Philadelphia United Methodist Church, our Philadelphia Youth Group, known as PYG, is a ministry for 6th through 12th graders. PYG strives to make every youth feel welcomed and encourages them to grow in their knowledge and love of God through worship, service, and fellowship.
PYG offers middle and high school youth a safe and fun environment where they can explore their faith relationships with Jesus Christ, their peers, and adult mentors.
Our Mission
To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World by helping youth and their families worship in love, grow in love and serve in love.
As youth learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and learn to make Disciples for the transformation of the world, we offer them guidance and support through the following opportunities to Worship, Grow and Serve.
Living Out Our Mission
We provide opportunities for youth to experience and participate in worship with the larger church body in ways that empower them to hear and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with each other, as well as those in our community, nation, and world through words and actions. Opportunities to participate and lead in worship include:
- Participating in the Choir or CORE
- Serving as lay readers, ushers, on our audio/video team
- Planning and leading our annual Youth Sunday Services of Worship and Praise
Our dedicated staff and volunteer leaders provide our youth with multiple opportunities for spiritual growth, in safe learning environments, where Biblical Truths and life application of those truths are explored in ways that encourage youth to live as faithful disciples and meet life’s challenges. Opportunities for growth in faith include:
- Annual weekend Spiritual Life Retreat
- Weekly Sunday Evening Program of Food, Fellowship and Biblical Life Application Studies
- Confirmation Classes for Students in the 8th grade or older
Believing that an important part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ is showing our love for our neighbor by serving with whatever gifts we each possess, our youth are actively engaged in reaching out to offer their time and talent in ways that minister to the needs of those who are hurting, or have lost their way; to those who may not know Christ; and to those who are weary, worn, and weak. Throughout the school year Saturdays of Service opportunities are offered where youth engage in community service at local agencies.
