Children

“Let the little children come to me: do not stop them for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.” – Mark 10:14

Children and their families are an active, vital part of our church community and our goal is to provide a welcoming environment where parents bring their kids to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ through fun and engaging Biblically based activities. We have an amazing team of trusted volunteer leaders and helpers who provide children with the opportunity to grow, learn and experience faith in a loving environment among good friends. The Children’s Ministry uses The Biggest Story Curriculum to teach our kids about the stories of the bible and how God has used the Israelites and ultimately Jesus to save the world from evil, sin, and death. Each week the kids hear a Bible story, do a related craft or activity, and watch a video lesson with our mascot, Shawn the Sheep, and learn about Jesus in a fun, creative way.

Ministries to children and families include:

  • Sunday School Classes for both Preschool and Elementary 10:00am-10:45am.
  • Kids’ Church after Wee Worship at both services.
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Children’s Choirs (see link for more information)
  • Church Family Gatherings (ex: picnics, movie nights, etc.)

Contact Children’s Director Nic Gold with any questions.

Nursery
Our nursery provides a special place for infants (6 weeks old) through two years of age to experience God’s unconditional love. Our toddlers enjoy learning about God’s love through crafts, books, prayers and songs each week. The nursery is staffed by a loving and dedicated paid staff that have been carefully screened and interviewed. Volunteers also work alongside with staff each week to provide extra individual care.

Safe Sanctuary
Safe Sanctuaries is the name commonly given by local United Methodist Annual Conferences and local churches to their individual efforts to make conference, district, and local church programs welcoming and safe for children and youth. Philadelphia United Methodist Church’s Safe Sanctuary policy is reviewed annually to ensure we are faithfully addressing the safety and well-being of children, youth, and adults and doing everything we can to provide a protective and safe environment.  All church employees and volunteers of children and youth must undergo a background check and commit to follow the Safe Sanctuary Policy and conduct ourselves in a manner consistent with the teachings of Christ.

Families

The mission of our Family Ministry is to partner with all forms of families in raising children to be disciples of Jesus and to embrace the Bible stories in their faith formation. As a church, we seek to provide a safe space for parents, guardians, and children to ask questions and grow as Christians and families.
