One of the ways we make disciples at Philadelphia UMC is by offering opportunities for each person, young and old, to grow in knowledge and love of God with the goal of helping individuals become more and more like Christ and to act out of the love, understanding, and self-sacrifice he showed.
Sunday School, whether it is for children, youth, or adults, is a major part of how that happens. Sunday School is also a place where people come together for a sense of fellowship or community – a sense of belonging. A place where you can be known, get to know others and ideally, where you come to know that you are loved.
It has been said that Christianity is more “caught than taught.” Children in Sunday School learn Bible stories and come to know God’s love and intentions through them, but they also experience the love of their teachers and even the other pupils. Teenagers and adults are enabled better to deal with the challenges of their lives both through what they learn and through the companionship along the way of their teachers and peers.
At Philadelphia UMC, we offer Sunday school classes for all ages at 9:45 am and at 11:00 am on Sundays. Our volunteer teachers faithfully work to lead these classes in ways that will help you grow in Christian maturity, in the Christian faith, and in a deeper relationship with God and neighbor.
We invite you to read over the descriptions below listing our current classes and make plans to visit one of them this week. If you have questions, aren’t sure where to start or wish to start a new class, contact our Director of Children’s and Family Ministries, Mr. Nic Gold (Nicolas@pumcfortmill.org) and he will be happy to assist you.
Children, Youth & Adult Classes
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6
We currently offer nursery care for infants – toddlers at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00am on Sundays. We also offer two elementary school level children’s classes at 9:45 am and two at 11:00am on Sunday mornings. (K-2nd graders meet together and 3rd -5th graders meet together).
All of our children’s classes meet in the Education wing of the church building near the nurseries and each of these classes is taught by Safe Sanctuary certified volunteers who provide good solid Bible learning with great love and fun.
To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. – Ephesians 3:21
There are two youth Sunday School classes offered at 9:45am and one youth class offered at 11am on Sunday mornings. The classes at 9:45 are divided between Middle school and high school students and all 3 classes meet at the end of the hallway in the Education wing of the church building near the Fellowship Hall.
Classes are designed to help students live their faith by equipping preteens and teens with the tools they need to face the many challenges of growing up and finding their way in life. Our youth ministry team is very mission minded and much of what our youth learn on Sunday mornings carries over into the lessons and activities that place during PYG (Philly Youth Group). For more information on PYG click here.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18
One never grows too old for Sunday School. It’s one of the best means to be used in allowing one’s self to become conformed to the image of Christ, to grow to Christian maturity. Currently, we offer the following adult classes on Sunday mornings:
DISCIPLES – Meeting @ 9:45 am in the Disciple Room (106)
Our class is multi-generational with ages ranging from about 45 to late 80’s and includes single men and women as well as married couples. This adult class meets in the Disciples Classroom and does a variety of studies during the year usually including an Advent and Lenten study. We use study guides (at times supplemented with video) and class discussion to study God’s Word. Join us as we travel along our journey to discover what God has to teach us. You’ll be glad you did!

LOGOS – Meeting @ 9:45am in the Library (122)
This is a Bible-focused, discussion format and typically uses a quarterly prepared lesson series. The class has outreach missions and a social event several times a year. The class is middle-aged to retired. Logos – the Divine utterance of God. We are seeking to understand the Word of God by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. SEEKERS -Meeting @ 9:45am in Room 109
No one is a stranger! We are multi-generational including visits from our young adult college students when they are in town. We are vocal, engaged, informal and we love to laugh. We are committed to seeking God’s will in our lives, Christian knowledge, spiritual growth and Biblical understanding. We frequently use book studies with videos to lay the foundation for our discussions. For more information contact: Cindi Cahaly, firstname.lastname@example.org.
INFUSION – Meeting @ 11:00am in the Parlor
A relaxed, “come as you are” class for adults based on the scripture found in Hebrews 10:22-25. Our intention is to grow in faith, overcome doubts and questions, deepen our relationship with God and encourage one another.
