“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 12:4
Spiritual gifts are not our talents or skills. They are the grace of God at work within us, empowering us to match our deep passions with the world’s deep need. The gifts are given to individuals, but they are given to build and strengthen community and to meet the needs of those around us.
Begin the journey by clicking on the Know your Gifts link to take the online spiritual gifts assessment.
This online Spiritual Gifts Assessment is a free and brief multiple choice survey that helps individuals answer the questions, “What do I do? What can I do? Where can I serve?”
By identifying their God-given gifts and understanding the nature of spiritual gifts, individuals can begin to discover ways to enhance the effectiveness of their gifts.
This Spiritual Gift Assessment, like all Spiritual Gifts Surveys is not absolutely exact; however, it is a helpful tool to use in helping individuals determine areas of ministry/service upon which they may focus and explore. To help you more deeply understand your spiritual giftedness, once you have completed the survey, we encourage you to talk with one of our trained spiritual gifts leaders who will help you explore your gifts and share with you some of the ways you might be able to use your gifts to serve God and others.
In discovering Spiritual Gifts, here are some ideas in addition to taking the Spiritual Gifts Assessment:
- Read God’s Word and pray asking God to show you the gifts that God has placed in you. Don’t tell the Lord what gifts you want; but rather trust that God has already placed in you the gifts that you can use to bring joy to yourself and others. (1 Cor. 12:11)
- Ask others in the community of faith to tell you what gifts that they see in you. All followers of Christ Jesus are members of the same body; encourage one another by sharing with them the spiritual gifts that you recognize in their lives.
- Try out areas of ministry/service that you think may be areas of your giftedness. Faith includes risk and trying something new. If you think you may have the gift of teaching and a friend thinks so too, then consider asking to assist a teacher or possibly volunteer for a short-term teaching assignment. Actions like this may help you make some discoveries.
- Just because God provides people with Spiritual Gifts does not mean that you can only minister/serve in that area. Just because you may not be gifted in a certain area does not mean that you could not assist or serve in that area as needed. We are called to be one body, helping one another in love.
